Engagement & Connection is a topic I am really passionate about, which is why I have developed my keynote around it.

Quick Story….

It’s summer 2009. I had just quit my “proper job” to become a full-time magician. I needed to earn money quickly, so I started street performing in Stratford-Upon-Avon. Day one, it was a total disaster! Virtually nobody stopped to watch my act. Nobody cared! I went home with a whopping £4.75p in my pocket.

Then and there I realised that the only way I was going to make a living as a full-time performer, was if I could get people to stop – Engage with me – and create a connection!

Fast forward, now it’s 2023 and every week I get to perform to hundreds or thousands of people LIVE on stage, and create viral content that reaches millions of people. So what changed?

In my brand new keynote I talk about the importance of creating Engagement & Connection in every interaction we have. Either in front of a large group or one on one. As soon as I started focussing less on “my act” and more on creating a connection with my audiences, my career skyrocketed. And here’s the best part, all of these skills are completely transferrable, for any interaction.

So here are 3 extremely simple things you can implement TODAY to create a better connection with whoever you’re interacting with:

  1. Be Inquisitive, Curious, and Interested in them – In other words. Ask questions! The more you know about your audience, the more you’ll understand how they think and what they care about.
  2. Be Present – If you are talking to someone, but actually thinking about something else on your to-do list, people can smell it! Put the phone down, look them in the eyes and be present.
  3. Stop Talking…and listen! – If you are doing all the talking, then you’re not being inquisitive enough. You are also not making it feel like a two-way interaction.
